Residents of Ethiopia's northern city of Mekele on Tuesday staged a parade to highlight the nation's achievements since the ouster in 1987 of the country's Marxist Derg regime. Situated 780km north of capital Addis Ababa, Mekele is home to Ethiopia's Tigray ethnic group and the Tigray People's Liberation Front , one of the main parties in Ethiopia's ruling coalition since 1991.
